Having worked as a writer, filmmaker and musician, Tessandra Smith has experience across much of the entertainment industry. While Mortal Kombat 1 plays a bit slower than MKX, the last game he was playable in, his focus on relentless block strings and 50/50 mixups remain intact. This can't be taken as confirmation of the final character's abilities, but the moves available to him seem to indicate that his playstyle has remained largely the same as previous entries.

Similarly, modders were able to get access to a stripped-down version of Quan Chi. Modders made Ermac available in Mortal Kombat 1 early by pulling the version players fight in story mode. Mortal Kombat 1's focus on player freedom means that anything could be on the table for Quan Chi. In MKX, Quan Chi could grab characters from a distance through portals, which could be a more fitting way to give him some ranged attacks in this new entry. Some entries have given him a fireball to control space and zone and it's unclear whether or not he will have one in MK1. Like in previous games, Quan Chi will likely focus on aggressive rush-down gameplay, carried primarily by his strong mix-ups. Quan Chi appears in Mortal Kombat 1's story mode, giving players a hint at how he may perform in this new entry.
